Speaking Independent Tasks口语独立题

Ø Task 1

[Question]

Do you think it is a good idea for parents to give kids monetary rewards for having good grades in school?

[Response]

I do not think it is a good idea for parents to give kids monetary rewards for having good grades in school. First of all, schoolchildren’s primary job is to make good grades. Parents should assign certain responsibilities that are not financially compensated: basic chores, high grades, as well as family obligations. Importantly, if they satisfy these basic obligations, they can earn more liberties and the satisfaction of being a good human being, as opposed to money. Secondly, parents who pay for high grades teach their children that studying should be rewarded with short-term gratification. Kids should learn to be self-motivated, long-term thinkers. By subsidizing every good action, parents may strip their kids of the experience of doing something long-term for its own sake.

Ø Task 2

[Question]

Do you agree or disagree with the following statement? It is never too late to get a degree in university.

[Response]

I agree that it is never too late to get a degree in university. Clearly evidenced, there are many examples of ninety-plus-year-olds who get university degrees. If anyone possesses the capacity and diligence to complete all the requisites, he or she can get a degree. Returning students or non-traditional students can sometimes acquire scholarships and other benefits for going to university. Most universities have no age limitations. Secondly, almost anyone can get a university degree, despite his or her excuses or busy schedule. Most universities offer night classes and online classes. If someone is motivated to get a university degree, he or she can find the money and time to complete it.

Writing Independent Task写作独立题

[Question]

If you have to choose between 2 places to go traveling, how do you make your decisions?

1. look it up online

2. ask a friend who has been to those places before

[Response]

Often, because of time and money constraints, vacationers need to discriminate between travel destinations, and there are various methods for making good decisions. However, some can lead to disastrous vacations because of false or imperfect information, and others, tend to be more accurate. If I have to choose between two places to go travelling, I would prefer to make my decision by looking it up online.

Deciding on a travel destination online is better than other alternatives because the information is written. Making a good decision requires that the person have access to as much accurate information as possible. Having the information online, in a written form, means that you can go to the information source whenever you want, and you will always have ready-access. This is ideal for making specific plans. If you ask a friend for information, they will probably provide less information, you will be more likely to forget the information, and the spoken conversation will likely to lead to error. Basically, looking for the information online is better because written information is better when trying to get specific, verifiable information according to your schedule. For example, let’s say your best friend suggests that you visit Pompeii, Italy. He went there four years ago, remembers the hotel, sites, and loved it. The problem is that maybe the hotel is gone now, he can’t provide information about where he did not go, he is not reliable when giving pricing estimates, and he may enjoy things you do not. Most importantly, however, your memory of his conversation is, likely, a poor reference for decision-making.

Beyond the superiority of written information, looking up the information online allows the person to objectively make his or her own decision. When someone is gracious enough to give you suggestions about where to go, they are limited to suggesting places on which they are authorities. This likely means that a person will only give you information about the few places he or she has experienced, and there is no guarantee that you will experience what he or she did. By using online sources to gather information about locations, the researcher can more effectively compare and contrast multiple options. There many sites that make comparisons easier. For example, hotels.com allows you to choose multiple locations before sending you to an information page with comparisons of activities and prices.

Simply stated, people can’t compete with the information recall abilities of the Internet; therefore, people are insufficient sources of varied information, and looking for information online is a superior decision-making method for objective, informed choices.
