The degree is validated by The University of Manchester, one of the most significant universities in the world. The MA in Mission is a highly flexible programme which is normally studied full- or part-time over one to three years. This means it is ideal both for those pursuing an academic vocation as well as for those currently involved in mission or ministry who need to juggle their studies with their church/mission commitments. Employment Opportunities Students completing a Postgraduate Certificate Mission, Postgraduate Diploma Mission, or MA Mission could be employed by churches in a voluntary or paid capacity to work in various capacities, depending upon their particular module focus, or chosen Pathway. The PGT Programme provides specialist training and expertise to equip students for a variety of areas. Students gain practical, academic, critical, and reflective skills related to mission, ministry, and teaching both within and beyond the church. They will have gained key discursive and communicative skills throughout their training which will enable them to work well within numerous interactive working environments. Furthermore, their writing assessments will have given them the ability to work independently, and to enhance their organisational, critical, and evaluative capacities. These might be applied well within occupations requiring regular administration and writing, such as office environments, but especially in occupations in which a critical reflection upon practice is a regular feature of the job, such as with charity work, mission agencies, churches, and civic authorities. The MA Mission provides a platform not only for the student’s own training towards mission projects but a platform for them to train others. As such, many organisations directly or indirectly involved in mission may see a candidate with an MA Mission as a valuable asset to them for the training and development of future leaders and workers. Our flexible and practice-based mode of study offers you the opportunity to take a Certificate in Higher Education over one or two years, and then go on to complete a Diploma and Degree. There is no need to leave home or the ministry you are involved in, as teaching is delivered online and in intensive teaching weeks. There is, however, lots of scope for discovering new things about what you do and why, and developing theological and spiritual confidence in God’s calling on your mission and ministry.**Children Mission and Ministry**This specialist pathway is for those working mainly with children up to secondary school age, in or for the church on a paid or voluntary basis. It covers: how children grow and learn and the issues they face in that process; theological understanding and principles related to children and childhood; the spirituality and faith of children; an introduction to mission to and with children; and management of self, team and leadership skills. **Youth Mission and Ministry**This specialist pathway is for those working with young people as they head in to and out of adolescence and young adulthood. It covers: the issues young people face both physically and culturally; theological approaches to young people and what their spirituality and faith might look like; an introduction to mission to and with young people; and management of self, team and leadership skills.**Third Age Mission and Ministry**This specialist pathway is for those working with, or wanting to develop a ministry among, older people. It covers: the issues of retirement, ageing and dementia, and the theological and biblical principles related to these; the nature of spirituality and faith in older people; and relevant and effective approaches to mission. It also includes management of self, team and leadership skills.**Family Mission and Ministry**This specialist pathway is specially designed for those working in mission and ministry amongst families. It considers what constitutes ‘family’, how families are formed, and the issues they face; the theological and biblical principles of family; an introduction to mission to and with families; spirituality and faith formation within families. It also includes management of self, team and leadership skills.**Progression**Moving on from the Certificate, the Diploma brings students of all the specialist pathways together to gain a better understanding of wider issues in mission and ministry; specialist delivery, learning and assessment remains a key part of the student experience. Students are supported by a personal tutor and encouraged to reflect more deeply on their ongoing practice in mission and ministry.
